Court of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Ujjain on Tuesday sentenced Ghatiya assembly constituency sitting MLA Satish Malviya to one year imprisonment and slapped fine of Rs 500 on finding him guilty under Section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).
However, as per the sources, Malviya was later released on bail from district sessions court.
Ujjain superintendent of police MS Verma informed that on November 1, 2007, complainant Takhat Singh, a traffic jawan, had lodged complaint against Malviya at Kotwali police station.
In his complaint, Singh claimed that when he was on duty at Chanmunda Mata square, he caught three persons including Malviya and two others for jumping red light signal.
On this, Malviya told him that he was son of then MLA Nagulal Malviya. He even manhandled him and punched him on his chest and tore off his uniform collar. Subsequently Singh lodged complaint at Kotwali police station.
Later investigation officer senior sub-inspector Rampratap Yadav investigated the matter and arrested Malviya. Police produced challan in the court.
