A 32-year-old man was arrested by the SIT for his alleged involvement in Madhya Pradesh's Pre-Medical Test (PMT) scam.
The accused, identified as Sunderlal Dhannagar, was arrested on Saturday night for allegedly helping his younger brother in clearing the PMT in 2011 through fraudulent means, SIT inspector Kanhaiyalal Dangi said.
Sunderlal, a resident of adjoining Dhar district, had allegedly paid Rs 5 lakh to a middleman - Khubchand Rajput - to help his brother Lakhan Dhannagar clear the PMT, he said.
Later, one Brajesh Jaiswal of the middleman's gang took the pre-medical test in place of Lakhan, following which the latter was admitted to Government Medical College in Sagar district for MBBS course, he said.
Twelve people, including Lakhan and Rajput, had earlier been arrested in connection with the case.
Sunderlal was being grilled in connection with the case, Dangi said, adding that further investigations are on.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Madhya Pradesh police is probing the wrong-doings in admission to the medical courses in the state.
