Police arrested a man on Wednesday for shoving a burning stick inside his wife’s private parts on suspicion of adultery at a village in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh.

Pradeep, the accused from Kadwi village, allegedly had a heated altercation with his wife on the night of April 25, beat her up mercilessly and committed the horrific crime. The accused then attacked her with a sickle and tore her clothes to prevent her from running out of the house, Rajpur sub-divisional officer (police) PS Baghel claimed. But the woman managed to escape to her parents’ house and told her relatives, who took her to police on Tuesday.

Pradeep is the woman’s second husband and they recently had a child — a girl of one-and-a half months. Her father said her former husband died two years ago. Police said the man has been torturing his wife for the past year, accusing her of adultery. She was sent to Khargone town for further examination and treatment after a doctor confirmed the severe burn injuries. Pradeep was produced before a Rajpur court after his arrest.
