Madhya Pradesh tourist spots are fast turning into a safe haven for dreaded criminals of Uttar Pradesh who find them safer to stay in and easier to escape from, according to Uttar Pradesh police sources.

Majority of these spots fall in Rewa, Satna, Narsinghpur, Jabalpur, Sidhi, Umaria, Teekamgarh, Betul, Harda, Panna and Datia districts of Madhya Pradesh, confirmed the sources, indicating the potential ‘crime risk ’ these spots are exposed to.

There are at least 15 listed criminals of eastern Uttar Pradesh, majority of them contract killers and robbers, who frequently slip into Madhya Pradesh through the Rewa corridor, connecting Uttar Pradesh with Madhya Pradesh, said UP police officials, on their chase in MP.

In Madhya Pradesh, they get an easy access to rooms, girls and ample opportunity to escape into the neighbouring Maharashtra.

However, Rewa IG Pawan Shrivastva said, “I am not aware of such things happening in my area, nor have I been informed about it.” He admitted that the UP police were not bound to inform their Madhya Pradesh counterpart.

A few days ago, a four-member- team of UP crime branch stayed in Hoshangabad to trace dreaded contract killer Ashok Yadav from Jaunpur (UP). But, he managed to escape towards Maharashtra.

Jaunpur(UP) crime branch inspector KK Mishra, who had been camping in Hoshangabad for four days with his team, said that Yadav was involved in more than two dozen cases of murder and loot in eastern Uttar Pradesh. He was staying at some tourist spots in Hoshangabad and Betul and managed to escape from there.

Intelligence sources said that another dreaded criminal from Varanasi Indradeo Singh too stayed in MP after committing murder.

Ajay Singh of Allahabad Special Task Force (STF) claimed that the police had ample evidence to corroborate that UP criminals stayed in MP after committing crimes in Uttar Pradesh .Sources said, “Criminals like Kattar Singh and Dabbu Singh, both form Mirzapur (UP) change their places in one or two days after coming to Madhya Pradesh.”
