It will be icing on the cake for Madhya Pradesh cricketers, who have done exceptionally well in 2015-16 season, as former India skipper Sourav Ganguly will honour them at MPCA annual award ceremony in Indore on August 1.
Cricketers are excited to have Ganguly, the president of Cricket Association of Bengal, as the chief guest at the event to be held at Brilliant Convention.
Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) secretary Milind Kanmadikar told HT: “It will be great privileged to have gracious presence of the country’s most successful captain as the chief guest for the award.”
On Ganguly’s participation in the award ceremony, state Ranji team captain Devendra Bundela said: “It will be great motivating for many of us to receive award from Dada.”
Naman Ojha, who will lead India-A team during Australian tour starting next month, said: “It’s like icing on the cake for me. It will be a great moment for me to receive award from one of the best cricket captains. It will inspire me to be like him on field.”
Rahul Batham, the 17-year-old who spearheaded Indian pace bowling attack in the Under-19 World Cup at Dhaka early this year, said: “He is our idol. We grew up by watching him leading Team India.”
“If I get a chance to interact with him, I will seek his tips on how to maintain on field aggressive attitude,” Batham said.
Notably, the state team have made into Ranji trophy semi-finals this year.
Cash award for star performers
MPCA is set to award Rs 25 lakh to state team for reaching Ranji semi-finals. State under-23 and under-16 teams and women’s cricket teams will be felicitated. Ojha and Batham will receive cash prize of Rs 5 lakh each, while Rajat Patidar will get Rs 1 lakh for their meritorious performance. MPCA will also bestow ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award during the function. Besides, there will be awards for the Divisional Cricket Associations under the ‘Incentive Scheme’.
