High-voltage drama was seen at central India's biggest government hospital on Sunday, as a mentally challenged patient created chaos. The patient, identified as Sikandar, attacked two doctors of MY Hospital with a razor as they tried to give him medical help. Admitted in ward number 10, the patient was brought to the hospital late on Saturday night after he fractured his leg.
Hospital sources said that when he was admitted, he was calm and sober and did not show any signs of aggression. It was only on Sunday morning when the on duty doctor came to monitor his health that Sikandar bit him on his hand. Later on, he started vandalising the property around him as he threatened to attack people with a razor.
Soon another doctor was called in to administer sedative to him but he retaliated again with a razor thereby injuring the other doctor as well. "The patient was suffering from some psychological problem. We tried to sedate him but he was showing an extremely aggressive behaviour. Finally the police had to be called,” said Dr AD Bhattnagar, superintendent, MY Hospital.
The patient also injured a policeman while attempts were made to control him. "He showed no signs of being mentally challenged when he was admitted at the hospital. But later on it became quite difficult to control him. When we inquired about his history, his mother admitted that he had experienced fits a few years back," added Dr Bhatnagar. The patient was thereafter shifted to the mental hospital on Sunday itself where he will undergo treatment for his psychological problem.
