Two minors were allegedly attacked by goons and one of them drowned, while fishing at the Retam area of Gandhi Sagar Dam at Sanjeet Magra village in Mandsaur.
The deceased has been identified as Asif (15), whose body was recovered on Friday, 48-hours after the incident occurred. Seventeen-year old Raise who was with the deceased managed to escape.
Asif's family members and residents from Sanjeet Magra village say that the main source of income comes from fishing from the Indira Sagar dam. They said that for the past few days, they have been living in the fear of the fishing contractor's goons.
“They frequently attack us and don't allow us to enter the dam waters for fishing,” said a villager.
Raise said, “On Wednesday, when we both (Raise and Asif) were fishing, the goons attacked us. They came in a big steamer in a bid to drown both of us and hit our boat."
“Following the collision, our small boat overturned and subsequently Asif began drowning. He attempted to hold the tubes on the steamer, but goons opened fire on him,” he said.
As soon as news spread in the village, residents launched a search operation, but their efforts were in vain. After 48-hours, Asif's body was fished out.
Angry family members and villagers held a chakka jam at the Gandhi square in the village. Villagers said that despite repeated attacks on them by goons, police did not take any relevant action. Only after being assured of action against the goons did the villagers withdraw the chakka jam.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Sunil Mehta said a case has been registered at the Nahargarh police station under Section 174 CrPC and investigation in the matter is on.
