A panther cub was reportedly spotted in Radio Colony near Residency area of Indore on Thursday. It was traced through a CCTV camera installed outside one of the houses in the area.
The forest department was informed and it went into a tizzy over its presence. There was panic among residents of the area too.
"The footage shows a small cub. Due to the poor quality of the footage, it is very difficult to judge whether it is a panther or a wild cat. But as it has been found in the centre of the city, we are on alert," said RR Okhandiar, chief conservator forest, Indore.
The possibility being cited by the forest department is that either a panther is moving near Khan river or it has strayed in the area. "The entire area is very green. So, a lot of effort will have to be put in to actually understand what got him here," added Okhandiar.
While teams of forest officials have been sent to the area to look for more traces to confirm whether it's a panther cub, the fact that the footage is two days old, is making the forest department come up with a detailed plan to track its movement.
