Patna police have sealed bank accounts of Rajnish Kumar Singh, the main suspect in the Shristi Jain murder case, in a bid to tighten the noose around the absconding Vaishali youth.
Police are in the possession of CCTV footage of a hotel in which Rajnish and Shrishti were seen in an animated discussion.
On January 25, a man had shot dead Indore-resident Shristi while she was travelling in an auto-rickshaw to board a train at the Patna Junction. Police had said prima facie it appeared to be a case of failed love affair.
“We have seized SBI bank accounts belonging to Rajnish. We don’t know the exact amount of cash in these accounts, but they were seized as part of our investigation,” Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said.
A police team was conducting raids at various places to apprehend Rajnish, the SSP said. “The call detail records of Shrishti and Rajnish have also been procured.”
Meanwhile, station house officer of the Juranwanour police station in Vaishali district, Navin Kumar, said media reports stating Rajnish’s involvement in a kidnapping case were erroneous.
“Rajnish had not been residing in Vaishali for the last several months. He almost left Vaishali after the death of his father. He had taken a house in Patna where he stayed. Police are also trying to know his bank account in Vaishali but did not find,” he added.
The victim’s parents and her sister had met the SSP and the Patna Superintendent of Police on Wednesday and told them that Shrishti had come in contact with Rajnish and his relative Rahul Kumar of Vaishali through a matrimonial site.
