Sixteen-year-old Priya Rawat was killed at her home on Tuesday after a man, she had befriended on Facebook, stabbed her 12 times with a knife on her torso before jumping off the second floor of the building. The accused, Amit Yadav, also attacked the girl’s mother when she tried to stop him.
The locals, however, spotted Amit lying injured on the road and took him to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital. “A case has been registered against him,” said Rajendra Soni, Bhawarkuan police station in-charge.
A software engineer, Amit had allegedly befriended the girl on Facebook using a fake account. “About a year ago, Amit created a fake account by the name of Priyanshi and sent a friend request to the girl. Soon, they started chatting and Priya shared her private details with Amit unknowingly,” Soni said. Later, when she came to know about it, she immediately blocked him, Soni said.
“The girl was preparing for IIT exams and had stopped using her mobile phone to avoid distractions. Amit knew about this and used to text and call on her mother’s number. He had also even come to meet Priya a month ago but was unable to do so,” he added.
On Monday night, her mother received a message from Yadav requesting her to let him meet Priya. She, however, did not reply to the text. On Tuesday, however, Amit reached her residence and rang the bell. Priya opened the door and asked him to leave. Angry over her refusal to meet him, Amit stabbed her several times on her torso. When her mother tried to rescue her, he stabbed her too before jumping off the second floor.
“Priya and her mother were rushed to a private hospital by the locals. While the teenager succumbed to her injuries, her mother was undergoing treatment at Maharaja Yeshwantrao hospital. Amit has also suffered a fracture on his leg,” Soni said.
