Thousands of students are taking the online Common Admission Test (CAT 2014) in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.
This is the first phase of the entrance examination for admission to 13 prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and leading business schools in India. The second phase of the examination is scheduled to be held on November 22.
In 2013, around 1.94 lakh students took the the online test in India, which was conducted in 40 sessions for 20 days. This year, however, the examination is being held only for two days.
As the number of days reduced from 20 to two, Indian Institute of Management, Indore, responsible for conducting the exam for the second consecutive year, increased the number of test centres to 354 in 99 cities against total 76 test centres in 40 cities in 2013.
In Madhya Pradesh, the online test is being conducted at 16 centres, six each in Indore, Bhopal, two in Jabalpur and one each in Sagar and Gwalior against only two test centres in MP, one each in Indore and Bhopal in 2013.
According to information provided by IIM-Indore, selection of new test centres in new cities in MP has been made in such a way that prominent regions like Bundelkhand, Mahakoshal and Gwalior-Chambal are covered.
