Three people were burnt alive when the car in which they were travelling caught fire.

The incident occurred on Ratlam-Mandsaur highway near Dodar village in Jaora tehsil of Ratlam district—about 40-kilometres north of Ratlam district headquarters—between 12.30am and 1.15am. The passengers were travelling from Ratlam to Chittorgarh in Rajasthan in a Santro car (MP 43 C2566) on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Arun, Rohit and Rakesh, all from Mission Compound, Ratlam, while one person who was critically injured was identified as 24-year-old Vikas, a native of Chittorgarh.

According to the police report, all the deceased and injured were between the age group of 20 and 25 years.

According to Ratlam superintendent of police Ashish, the car turned into a fireball possibly after a head-on collision with an unidentified vehicle leaving all four passengers trapped in the car. Vikas managed to escape from the car with the help of constable Pappu Major and Govardhan, a roadside dhaba owner. Later, he was admitted at Jaora Government Hospital.

According to Ratlam police, it was allegedly a case of drunken driving. The real cause of the mishap will be ascertained only after Vikas regains consciousness.
