While she never took up the matter seriously, it was only a week back when her condition deteriorated that she was taken to another doctor for her checkup. Dr Qurban Husain, who operated Fareeda at Malik Nursing home, said that he had a doubt of appendix being the reason of the pain, but when she was operated a small towel was recovered.

The doctor added that Fareeda also had infection because of the towel lying in her body for more than a year. However, as relatives of Fareeda and significant members of the Bohra Community staged a demonstration at the hospital, according to her relatives, the hospital administration denied operating her.

When HT contacted the CEO of the hospital Dr Sanjay Gokuldas, he said that he was out of station and wasn’t aware of the entire matter and his brother Dr Anand Gokuldas would be in a better situation to speak on this matter. However, Dr Anand Gokuldas refused to answer the call despite repeated attempts.
