The acid attack has damaged the cornea of Murlidhar’s eye. He was immediately referred to Indore for advanced treatment, Dr Pradeep Vyas of the district hospital said. Later, he was shifted to a private hospital in Ujjain for further treatment.

City superintendent of police Nitesh Bhargava said the incident took place at Murlidhar’s Mahesh Nagar residence in Ujjain at 10pm on Monday and that the police were trying to identify the attackers who had covered their faces in mufflers.Their finger prints from the acid can had been collected to identify the attackers and know the exact reason of the attack, he said.

Quoting Anita’s statement, the police said the men came on a bike, parked it outside and expressed their desire to meet the leader. Anita let them into the room where Murlidhar came out to meet them, Anita kept standing by his side and Shardabai and Shagun were seated on a sofa.

As soon as the leader came near, one of the assailants poured acid on him and the family and scooted off the scene.

Hearing the commotion from, the neighbours came out and rushed them to the district hospital.

Anita, however, told the police that she was not able to identify the attackers as they had their faced covered in mufflers.
