Police have arrested two persons, including a woman, for allegedly trying to sell a 26-year-old married woman of Barwani district's Julwaniya town.

Rajpur sub-divisional officer (police) PS Baghel said Kaleem alias Kareem Khan and his live-in partner Durga Bai of Julwaniya have been arrested under various sections of the IPC on the victim's complaint.

Kaleem, resident of Khargone district, was sent to three-day police remand by a Rajpur court, while Durga Bai was sent to judicial custody.

Baghel said that the victim, resident of Anjad, was married to a person of Khargone, but he died due to over consumption of liquor. Later, she fell in love with Narendra Pawar of Julwaniya and married him.

The couple, which has a 20-month-old daughter, had frequent fights. Kaleem, a tenant in the same building, took advantage of the couple’s strained relation and convinced the victim to leave Pawar.

On March 1, Kaleem and Durga Bai took the victim allegedly to sell her through a broker, Vijay and his wife Pinky, but the victim overheard their negotiation talks and the plot failed.
