Villagers torch cop's car after one killed in accident in Barwani

Agitated villagers on Thursday torched a police official's private car after it was involved in an accident near Julwaniya at Khandwa-Vadodara road in Barwani that led to a persons death and injury to another. The driver of the car was also beaten up by the crowd.

Agitated villagers on Thursday torched a police official's private car after it was involved in an accident near Julwaniya at Khandwa-Vadodara road in Barwani that led to a persons death and injury to another. The driver of the car was also beaten up by the crowd.

SDOP Rajpur PS Baghel said the incident took place near village Rui where a car owned by police official overturned while trying to save two persons riding a motorcycle after the latter took a sharp turn and came in front of the vehicle.

However, the motorcycle rammed into the car and Babbu, 20, who was driving the motorcycle, died on the spot while Khema, the pillion rider, was severely injured. Both were from Kadwi village.

Assistant sub-inspector Vinod Mahajan, who was in the car at the time, also sustained injuries in the accident, while his driver Mubarik was caught and beaten up by the agitated villagers.

Police, however, came a rescued the driver and took into custody. After the police left, the enraged villagers torched the car.

Police have booked Mubarik for causing death by negligence and four named and 15 unknown people were booked for violence and torching the car.

ASI Mahajan, who was recently promoted, was at the time going to Khargone to join duty, while the bikers were returning after attending a function related to the demise of a relative.

SDOP said all injured, including driver Mubarik, were taken to a hospital. Khema was thereafter referred to the district hospital in Barwani.
