Unable to bear torture of her husband for dowry, a 26-year-old woman in Indore committed suicide after strangulating her two children to death.
The incident took place in Lakshmi Nagar area under Aerodrome police station late on Monday night. Police have arrested two persons including the woman's husband.
Shraddha Jat strangled her two children Pari (1) and Rajveer (3) to death and thereafter hanged herself at her residence.
A suicide note was also found from the spot but police have sent the letter for further examination. "We are examining the handwriting of the letter to confirm it was written by the deceased or someone else," said SP (west) Kalyan Chakrabarthy.
The SP further said that the deceased had mentioned in the suicide note that she was being tortured over money by her husband and brother-in-law.
"We have arrested brother-in-law and her husband Yogesh Jat was arrested from another city," said Chakrabarthy.
Yogesh Jat had fled after the incident. As per the residents of the locality, he had not come to the house for last two days. He used to work as flax agent in Khajuri Bazaar area.
Shraddha's father Girish Desai said that the family members of Yogesh were demanding Rs 5 lakhs from him to pay some debt. As per Desai, her daughter was tortured by husband and in-laws forcing her to take the extreme step.
On Monday night at around 11 pm, Jitesh, a resident of Lakshmi Nagar, who resides in the same building, saw the Shraddha's body hanging inside the house. Jitesh went inside the house and saw the body of the two kids lying on the bed.
Jitesh raised alarm and called police control room. Senior police officials along with the forensic experts rushed to the spot.
"Only Shraddha and her kids were in the house when she took the extreme step," said Rupesh Dwividi, additional superintendent of police.
Dwivedi said from primary investigations it has come to light that the she was being tortured by her husband and his family members for the last couple of days.
