Some unidentified youths allegedly poisoned two minor girls of a Madhya Pradesh village and threw them into a well after failing to succeed in their rape bid, according to the victims’ family.
The girls were rescued from the well and admitted to MY hospital in Indore where the doctors said the girls were poisoned and were unconscious.
The incident took place at a village near Omkareshwar, about 70 kilometres from Indore, bordering Khandwa district, where they had gone out to answer nature's call on Wednesday.
Additional superintendent of police (Khandwa) Gopal Khandel told HT that a team of police officers had been sent to the hospital to record the girls’ statement. The FIR would be lodged thereafter, he said.
However, the family members of the victims alleged that the police were trying to hush up the case.
"The police are asking questions as to how this happened whereas the girls narrated the entire incident in front of no less than 50 villagrse before falling unconscious," alleged family members, adding that they got delayed by 30 minutes in rushing the victims to the hospital, waiting for the police on the sarpanch’s advise.
The villagers said that the girls had indicated the presence of four-five strangers but had assured that they would identify them.
"As per the police station incharge, the resident of the village have not seen these four-five persons,” Khandel said.
