With Sunil Narine gone early, Gambhir and Robin Uthappa repaired the innings. Uthappa was the one with the flashier shots but Gambhir was the glue that held the innings together. He let Narine have the striker and then Uthappa till Corey Anderson pitched one wide outside the off-stump. (KKR vs DD: T20 MATCH SCORECARD)
Given Gambhir’s strength square of the wicket, it was asking for punishment and in this form, he doesn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. And though he let Uthappa be the more aggressive partner in their 108-run stand, Gambhir didn’t miss an opportunity like when Pat Cummins bowled at his legs. And when Amit Mishra came on, Gambhir hit him for two fours in the seventh over.
Gambhir ultimately go out for 71 as KKR chased down DD’s 161-run target in 16.2 overs.
