Mumbai Indians might have suffered a narrow three-run defeat against Rising Pune Supergiant in the 2017 Indian Premier League match at the Wankhede stadium, but they created a new record in the process. The match at the Wankhede Stadium was their 170th outing in the shortest format of the game across competitions. They overhauled the previous record held by English county side Somerset.
The English county side has played 169 T20 matches. In third place is another English side Hampshire, who have played in 166 games. Royal Challengers Bangalore are fourth in the list with 162 games, followed by Surrey (158) and Sussex (158) respectively.
Of those 170 matches, Mumbai Indians have emerged victorious in 97, losing 71 while two have ended in no result.
They have played bulked of their matches in IPL. Of the 142 games in IPL, they have won 80, have lost in 61 games while one ended in a no result.
Since their inception during the first edition of the IPL in 2008, Mumbai Indians have twice won the IPL (2013, 2015) title and equal number of Champions Trophy T20 (2011, 2013) crowns.
Rohit Sharma’s team are currently on top of the table in the 2017 Indian Premier League and their next match will be on April 29 against the Gujarat Lions in Rajkot.
