A joint team of Bhatta Basti police and the anti-human trafficking unit rescued 16 children aged between six and 14 years on Tuesday from a bangle-making unit in Bhatta Basti in Jaipur.
On a tip-off, a raid was conducted at a house in JP Colony in Shastri Nagar, where 16 children were rescued and a person, identified as Mohammad Guddu Ansari, 35, was arrested for involvement in the trade. Police said the children are from Bihar.
A complaint under IPC sections 344 (wrongful confinement for ten or more days), 374 (unlawful compulsory labour), 370/5 (trafficking children below the age of 12), 75 (enhanced punishment for certain offences under Chapter XII or Chapter XVII after previous conviction), 79 (act done by a person justified, or by mistake of fact believing himself, justified, by law) and Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005 has been registered against the accused.
The children have been sent to a protection home. Earlier this year, Jaipur police rescued 59 children, majority of whom belong to Bihar. Eight cases were registered and two persons were arrested in the case. Those rescued were from areas under Kotwali, Bhatta Basti and Brahmpuri police station limits.
