A 30-year-old woman and her three children were burnt alive in Banswara district on Tuesday morning. Police said the cause of the fire was not known. Home minister Gulab Chand Kataria has sought a report from the Banswara district collector on the incident.

Station house officer (SHO) of Patan in Banswara, Chandra Sekhar, said the house of Kanti Lal in Karmadia village caught fire at around 10 am on Tuesday.

His wife Bhoori and their three children - Arvind (6), Payal (3) and Munna (6 months) - were in the house when the incident occurred. The children died on the spot while Bhoori was rushed to the Kushalgarh primary health centre (PHC), where she succumbed to her burns.

Sekhar said they had received a report of the incident from Kanti Lal’s father Maniya, who was near the house when the fire broke out. Kanti Lal was working in a field some distance away, the police said.

Kushalgarh MLA Bhima Bhai informed home minister Gulab Chand Kataria about the incident. “He has sought a report from the district collector and assured financial help to the family,” he said.
