70-year-old Swiss tourist succumbs to H1N1 virus in state

A 70-year-old Swiss tourist died of swine flu at a hospital in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur city on Thursday, a top official said, as the state struggled to contain the spread of the highly contagious H1N1 virus. A 70-year-old Swiss tourist died of swine flu at a hospital in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur city on Thursday, a top official said, as the state struggled to contain the spread of the highly contagious H1N1 virus.

Since January 1, as many as 118 people have died of swine flu in Rajasthan, forcing the Centre to rush medicines and equipment to control one of the worst outbreaks of the disease in the state.

Chief medical and health officer YS Rathore said that the Swiss woman Anne Marie died at the Mathura Das Mathur hospital in Jodhpur — over 300 km from Jaipur — where she was admitted to on Wednesday.

The CMHO added that the woman was also suffering from lung cancer which could have aggravated her health condition.

The woman had tested positive for H1N1 virus in Jaisalmer, where she was holidaying with her friends, he added.
