8,500 file papers for 1st phase of elections
More than 8,500 nominations were filed for the first phase of panchayat polls in Rajasthan before the process ended at 3pm on Tuesday. More than 8,500 nominations were filed for the first phase of panchayat polls in Rajasthan before the process ended at 3pm on Tuesday.
Till the filing of this report, 7,054 nominations were received for Panchayat Samitis and 1,503 for Zila Parishads, State Election Commission officials said.
The total number of nominations was being tabulated and the exact figure would be known late at night, officials said. The affidavits were filed in line with the ordinance promulgated by the state government, they said.
During the first phase, polls for the posts of 2,305 Panchayat Samiti members, 3,562 Sarpanchs and 39,189 Panchs will be held on January 16.
The nomination process for members of Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads started the notification for the first phase was issued on January 3.
The scrutiny of nominations will be done on January 7, and candidates can withdraw their nominations till January 8.
The second phase of the polls will be held on January 22 and third phase on January 30. The notification for these phases will be issued on January 9 and January 17, respectively.
The election of Zila Pramukhs and Pradhans will be held on February 7, while Deputy Zila Pramukhs and Pradhans will be elected on February 8.

A total of 33 Zila Pramukhs and as many De puty Zila Pramukhs, 295 Pradhans and as many Deputy Pradhans, 1013 Zila Parishad members, 6258 Panchayat Samiti members, 9872 Sarpanchs and as many Deputy Sarpanchs and 10,94,69 Panchs will be elected during the polls.
There are more than 3.28 crore registered voters, including 1.55 crore women and 1.73 crore men.
