The Anti Terrorism Squad (STS) of the Rajasthan Police on Wednesday took over the investigation of Indian Mujahideen (IM) modules in the state.
The Jodhpur police, following an order issued by the additional director general of police, CID (CB), have handed over the case to the ATS.
“We have handed over the investigation against IM modules in Jodhpur to the ATS Rajasthan after receiving orders from the police headquarters,” a senior police official said, adding that additional superintendent of police (ATS) Ashish Prabhakhar has begun the probe from Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the police and ATS have intensified search for another IM suspect, who escaped from his Jodhpur residence before the police raid on Tuesday.
The man, identified as Ashraf, reportedly had close links with IM’s Indian commander Tehsin Akhtar alias Monu and Waqas. The senior official said that the police and ATS are searching for Ashraf and had raided various places in and around the city during the day.
“Ashraf escaped from his residence at Mohalla Laykan before the police raided it,” the official said, adding that it has learnt that Ashraf was the oldest IM sleeper cell in the city and had played a vital role in preparing many other people for the IM.
Ashraf was reportedly in touch with terrorists like Monu and Waqas and had helped them to develop the local IM modules.
