Fed up with alleged police harassment, an auto-driver attempted suicide in front of the Bikaner Superintendent of Police’s office by consuming pesticide on Wednesday morning.

Hanuman Hattha resident Shivsingh Rajpurohit is batting for life at a hospital.

Rajpurohit apparently did not share good terms with his neighbour and fellow auto-driver Kailash Joshi.

Matters came to such a state that an angry Rajpurohit had purportedly tried to set ablaze Joshi’s three-wheeler on April 21. Joshi had then lodged a police against his neighbour.

But Rajpurohit had been crying foul over what he claimed as one-sided police action against him. The auto-driver reached the SP’s office around 9.30 am when most of the subordinate staff was yet to arrive. Before giving any hint, the auto-driver gulped down about 200 ml of pesticide, Aldrin.

An attendant at the SP office informed his family following which Rajpurohit’s brother rushed him to the Prince Bijay Singh Memorial Hospital in an unconscious state.

The auto-driver’s relative Ummed Singh told HT that Rajpurohit had repeatedly approached the SP to complain against the harassment of the investigating officer, sub-inspector Gurjeet Singh. “Even Lok Sabha MP Arjun Ram Meghwal had intervened in the matter and the SP assured him of proper action against the sub-inspector,” he said.

Bikaner SP Amandeep Singh Kapoor told HT that an inquiry is on to ascertain the facts related to the case. “We will do the needful once the inquiry is over,” he said.
