Jaipur: Jaipur mayor Jyoti Khandelwal has launched a scathing attack on BJP councilors in Jaipur municipal corporation (JMC) accusing them of being involved in corrupt deals by working hand in glove with the firm given the contract of a workers’ health scheme.

“The information from the Employee State Insurance (ESI) department reveals that the firm that was given the contract for providing temporary employees for sanitation, is depositing ESI contribution for only 75 employees while they are claiming bill for more than 4,000 temporary workers from JMC,” Khandelwal said.

“Therefore, payment is being made to nonexistent employees as BJP councilors are working in nexus with the contractor,” Khandelwal alleged.

“Due to the practice, the firm is not just debarring the temporary employees from the health facilities but are also involved in corruption,” Khandelwal

The matter needs to be probed thoroughly and guilty should be punished, mayor added.

The firm is demanding a bill of ` 4.92 crore for January month but they deposited only `14,950 for 75 employees for the same month, she added.
Jyoti Khandelwal had demanded that zonal commissioners should take responsibility for temporary workers employed at ward level of sanitation.

“I had written a letter to anti corruption bureau (ACB) earlier this year regarding corruption by contractors as they are not depositing provident fund and employee state insurance, which are mandatory provision under labour laws. I have now written to the principal secretary of urban development Ashok jain to ensure protection of rights of these temporary employees,” Jyoti Khandelwal said.

Meanwhile, some councilors of JMC had written to the Anti Corruption Bureau to quash the complaints made by mayor as it is false.

Mayor Jyoti Khandelwal is from Congress Party while majority of councillors in JMC holds affiliation to BJP.
