BJP says Cong leader disrespected tricolour in poll speech

In a complaint to chief election officer (CEO) of Rajasthan, the oppostion BJP on Sunday sought action against PCC president C P Joshi for making "disrespectful" statement against the National Flag.

Joshi at an election rally in Jamwaramgarh in Jaipur said "Congress party ko vote dena Sonia Gandhi ki jeet hai, Manmohan Singh ki jeet hai, haath ki jeet hai aur desh ke tirange ki jeet hai" (Casting vote in favour of Congress is victory of Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and the tricolour).

Accusing Congress of creating confusion among voters, party state vice-president Arun Chaturvedi alleged that "according to Congress, it is necessary to vote for that party for victory of the tricolour."

"The statement means if another party wins, it would be defeat of the National Flag," he said.

"Words used by him are not only violation of model code of conduct and against law, but also a question of dignity of the National Flag," Chaturvedi said.
