As many as 12 people, including five women, were injured when a bus carrying a wedding party collided with a truck in Bapawar region of Kota district on Monday night. Three of them were admitted to the Maharao Bhim Singh government hospital at Kota in a critical condition.

The accident occurred at midnight, when the bus – returning to Khajori Odpur village in Sangod from a wedding function at the house of one Mashok Ali in Bapawar town – ran into the truck, which was coming from the opposite side.

The front portion of the bus was damaged completely, and an earth mover was put into use to rescue the driver, Ramkumar, and another occupant from the vehicle’s mangled remains.

Local residents assisted the police in rescuing the passengers, and those with minor injuries were taken to the nearby health centre in Bapawar for treatment.

Bapawar station house officer Sudhir Kumar said the three critically injured persons have been declared out of danger. The drivers of both the bus and the truck have been booked for negligent driving, he added.
