Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) on Monday urged the state election commission to take action against irregularities in the zila parishad and the panchayat samiti poll schedule.
RPCC general secretary Sushil Sharma met the state chief election commissioner Ram Lubhaya and submitted a memorandum.
Sharma stated in the memorandum that in the announced poll programme, the nomination could be filed from January 3 to 6, 2015, while voting will be done in three phases.
Looking at the plan, it is clear that candidates in the first phase are getting less time for election campaigning while those in phase third will get the maximum time to campaign, which is a big irregularity as everyone should be given equal time.
He said that the in phase I, scheduled to be held on January 16, the candidates will get only one week to campaign. Those in phase II will get two weeks for campaigning, while third-phase candidates will get three weeks to campaign.
“We urge that this irregularity be resolved by holding a nomination process for the three phases in an organised manner,” said Sharma.
