A week after a Dalit rape victim committed suicide in Barmer, another Dalit rape victim has threaded to commit suicide alleging police inaction in her case.
On September 11, a 28-year-old rape victim had committed suicide in the Chohtan police station area alleging that the police had not taken any action in the case forcing the victim to take the extreme step.
The second victim’s father has submitted a memorandum with the superintendent of police on Tuesday and said about two years ago the accused, Rohit Mali, a school bus driver, had clicked obscene photos and a video of his daughter and started blackmailing her with it. He alleged that the accused had threatened to make the photos and video public and had started blackmailing her and had also sexually exploited his daughter, who is a class 12 student.
On July 30, the accused Rohit and his friend, Uttmaram, a local BJP leader, kidnapped his daughter from their home and took her to a deserted place outside the village. He alleged that both started molesting her but fled after some passers-by came to the spot. The victim managed to inform her family and they reached the spot and took her back.
He claimed that they filed a case at the Sheo police station on September 2 and on September 12 police registered the victim’s statements under Section 164. The police then arrested the prime accused Rohit Mali. However, the cops have not arrested the second accused, who is a BJP leader, till date.
The victim’s father alleged that Uttmaram is getting undue favour from the police and is continuously threatening the victim’s family. He alleged that after the incident his daughter had attempted suicide by cutting her hand but they had managed to save her.
He said that in the memorandum he has mentioned that his daughter has threatened to commit suicide if the accused is not arrested soon and police inaction will be responsible for it.
Ratan Lal, deputy superintendent of police and investigation officer, said that they have arrested one accused and have sought the call details of the second accused, Uttmaram. After which further action will be taken, he added.
