A bench of the Rajasthan high court on Friday directed the state government to ensure that people do not cover their faces while driving or riding their vehicles. The order applies to both two-and four-wheelers.
Justice GK Vyas, while hearing a criminal revision petition of a juvenile of Ladnu, in Nagaur district, asked the state government to issue directions to district police to ensure that drivers do not hide their face by covering them with a cloth.
However, justice Vyas made it clear that relaxation may be given if drivers cover their faces to protect themselves from harsh weather.
The petitioner was booked by the police for robbing a sweetmeat shop owner along with two others. At the time of the incident, the accused were wearing masks. Two other accused were granted bail by the high court sometime back. The petitioner, a juvenile, has now approached for the bail.
The government counsel told the court that it appeared that many teenagers cover their faces to hide their identity either to commit an offence or to disrupt peace.
“If any vehicle driver is found covering (his/her) face, then action may be taken against them under the CrPC,” justice Vyas told the government.
