A girl was allegedly harassed and assaulted along with her male friend by a group of college students inside Rajasthan University (RU) campus here, police said on Sunday.
According to a complaint filed by Ritesh Badgurjar, a third year student of the university, he and the girl were by the pool late on Saturday night when a group of youngsters started eve-teasing and verbally abusing her.
The accused subsequently called more of their accomplices, also university students, and started beating the two with sticks.
They also smashed the girl's mobile phone, police said.
The 21-year-old male victim was admitted to hospital with multiple fractures, while the girl student received bruises, police said.
Badgurjar filed an FIR naming 28 people involved in the incident, police said.
One of the miscreants was arrested on Sunday and named five others also involved in this incident, they said.
A case was filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including the SC/ST Act, against the 28 youths named in the FIR, police said.
Meanwhile, hostel inmates and student leaders protested outside the vice-chancellor's house demanding culprits' arrest.
The protest ended after DCP-East and VC Secretariat assured swift action.
