jaipur Updated: Nov 16, 2014 16:04 IST

The Rajasthan government on Friday suspended four panchayat representatives for their alleged involvement in parading a woman naked on a donkey.

A woman of Thuraval village in Rajsamand district was paraded naked on November 8.

Those who have been suspended are Thuraval panchayat sarpanch Bhagwati Devi Bheel, deputy sarpanch Chhagan Lal, ward panch Kesi Bai Dasana and Shiv Singh Dasana.

The chief secretary passed the order after a probe team led by deputy superintendent of police Chandan Singh proved the charges against them.

Earlier on November 12, four police officials were suspended for not providing timely information to the government and showing laxity in rescuing the victim. At least 42 villagers, who were involved in the incident, were arrested and sent to jail by a local court.
The government awarded `2 lakh to the victim from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. A sum of `1 lakh was additionally given to the victim by the PHED minister, who met her on Friday.
