Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Sachin Pilot on Wednesday alleged that the Vasundhara Raje-led government has failed to curb illegal mining and such activities are continuing without hindrance in the state.

After visiting Arai area of Ajmer where a mine running on pasture land caved in killing two labourers, Pilot held the state government and local administration responsible.

Mine running on pasture land shows the connivance of local administration and mafia, he said. As it was an illegal mine, violation of safety measures is natural and thus two people lost their lives, he added.

“Illegal mining is also being done on sensitive border districts which is a compromise to the country’s security,” he said.

Pilot alleged that after exposure of the mine scam of Rs 45,000 crore in the state, it is clear that under the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) government illegal mining is at its peak and government interests are associated with it.

“A campaign should be taken out against illegal mining to curb extraction of valuable minerals and politicians and administrators shielding the activity should be held responsible,” he said.

The Congress state chief also demanded compensation for the families of the deceased labourers and action against the negligent local administration.
