Factionalism and infighting in the BJP unit kept on emerging during chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s campaign here.
Raje, who addressed a public meeting in Padampur, 40 km from Sriganganagar, held discussions with a select few leaders for an hour at a resort. Those present at the meeting included MLA Surenderpal Singh, Gurjant Singh Brar, former minister Radheyshyam Ganganagar, former deputy chief whip OP Mahendra and BJP candidate Nihal Chand Meghwal.
Recently, there were reports of opposition within the party to the BJP candidate Nihal Chand. Heated arguments between election agent of Nihal Chand and personal assistant of former minister Radheyshyam Ganganagar had taken place, say sources.
On Saturday, when BJP leaders and workers in large numbers reached the resort to meet Raje, only BJP district president Mahendra Singh Sodhi, former minister Radheyshyam Ganganagar, vice chairman municipal council Seeta Soni, former district president Yuva Morcha Rajkumar Soni and few others were allowed inside whereas Nagar Mandal president Anil Bahal, Zila Parishad director Mahesh Budania and others were denied entry.
After a long wait when these leaders were called in by district president Sodhi, they told him that Radheyshyam Ganganagar and his group were being given preferential treatment. Sodhi pacified them.
When Raje started discussion at 10 AM, she invited only those who had opposed BJP candidate during recently held assembly elections. This time Radheyshyam supporters expressed resentment over being left out. Later, Raje addressed all the leaders and the workers in the convocation hall of the resort and urged them to forget their differences and ensure victory of BJP candidate by record margin.
