Jodhpur women have taken the lead when it comes to using WhatsApp for reporting crimes against them.

Launched by the state police on January 1, the project was started in Jodhpur, Jaipur and Kota.

The Jodhpur police received 34 complaints on WhatsApp in January. The Jaipur and Kota police received 25 and 13 complaints, respectively, during the same period. Director general of police Omendra Bhardwaj, who had launched the service, said there was a good response from women. “The police are filing complaints on the basis of information received on WhatsApp numbers and initiating necessary action.”

Complaints can be reported on WhatsApp through video clippings, audio recordings and photos. The WhatsApp numbers are connected to the police control rooms in all the three cities.

After talking to complainants, it can be said women have started taking greater interest in the service, the DGP added.

The numbers are: Jaipur: 08764868100; Jodhpur: 09530440800; Kota: 09468800005.
