Accusing the police of inaction in a murder case, an unruly mob took to heavy stone pelting at Samdari police station in Samdari town , around 135 km from Barmer.

They even attempted to forcefully enter the police station.

At least 15 security forces including additional superintendent of police got injured in the incident.

The protestors were staging dharna outside the police station since past 14 days demanding immediate action in the murder case of Gularam Bheel, 45, resident of Charwadi village in Barmer. He was shot dead when while grazing a cattle in his field.

The protestors had decided on Saturday to intensify their agitation on Sunday by holding Mahapadaw outside the police station.

Responding to the call of the agitators, hundreds of people of Bheel community (the deceased belonged to the same community) had gathered outside the police station on Sunday to take part in Mahapadaw.

The protest took a violent turn when some people attacked the police station and tried to enter into it. The cops had to resort to lathi charge to control the situation.

The lathi charge sparked off a massive protest by villagers who assaulted policemen and damaged their vehicles.

The situation became so unruly that police had to lock themselves up in the station and call for extra forces to save them from the infuriated mob.

Even though higher officials of district administration including district collector and superintendent of police reached the site, they were not able to pacify the agitators.

The agitators also burnt tyres in other areas of the city to register their protest.

The whole episode has tensed the entire atmosphere of the area.

Siwana’s sud divisional officer Gomti Sharma confirmed that around 15 policemen and the ASP got injured in the incident.

ASP Ramesh Chandra Meena, in-charge of Samdari police station Amarsingh Bhayal, assistant sub-inspectors Shanker Singh, Mahendra Singh, Narpat Singh and five jawans of rapid action force including others have been hurt. Deputy tehsildar Motaram also got injured in the incident.
