The debate over cow and the benefits it offers has got a fresh twist with a Rajasthan minister claiming that the milk of the indigenous breeds of the bovines has properties to cure cancer, and high blood pressure among other diseases.

“The source of α-amino acids in indigenous cow’s milk, which is also found in mother’s milk, is extremely beneficial in preventing cancer, curing high blood pressure, helping in digestion, and also for diabetes patients,” Prabhu Lal Saini, Rajathan minister for agriculture and animal husbandry, has said.

The minister further said that the time has come for people to give up on foreign-bred Jersey and Holstein cows and once again turn to the indigenous breeds.

The minister was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Olita Dairy Farm and Breed Development and Research Centre in Sikar on Monday, as per an official release.

Saini is the latest in a series of high profile people who have made statements on cow and the “miraculous medicinal properties of cow milk, dung, and urine.”

Last week, in his last judgment where he suggested the Centre to declare cow as national animal, Justice (retd) Mahesh Chand Sharma of the Rajasthan high court said that consumption of cow milk prevents cancer from entering the blood cells.

In February this year, BL Ahuja, a professor of physics at Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur, claimed that cow urine was capable of curing cancer, AIDS, and a bunch of other diseases.

These three are not the only ones who have found virtues in the cow, an animal considered sacred in Hinduism.

In January this year, Vasudev Devnani, the minister for education and panchayati raj in the state, said that cow was the only animal on planet that inhales and exhales oxygen.

Another public figure, senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Indresh Kumar had recently said that cow urine was a medicine. He said that 90% of people in the world are dependent upon cow milk and cow dung, and that cow milk has been considered synonymous with medicine and treatment in every religion.
