The management of luxury heritage hotel Rambagh Palace was taken aback on Wednesday when a caller told them he was interested in buying the hotel for the asking price of Rs 100 crore.

When a manager asked the caller what gave him the idea the hotel was up for sale, he replied he had seen an ad on the online classifieds platform, Olx.in. The ad came with a map showing the location of the hotel.

After the management filed a complaint with Ashok Nagar Police Station, Jaipur, against the unknown person behind the mischief, the police filed a case under relevant sections of the IT Act and approached cyber experts for identifying the culprit.

An official with the cyber crime cell of the police said on the condition of anonymity that three students were recently duped of Rs 62,000 by a swindler who had placed an ad on the Olx.in, offering three Apple iPones for sale. The case is being investigated by Jawhar Nagar Police Station.

A similar case has been lodged at a police station in Kota. The complainant had deposited Rs 25,000 for a 64 GB iPhone5 offered by an unknown "seller" on the website. After a few days, the complainant ordered four more phones and deposited an additional R1 lakh in the seller's account. But he didn't get a single phone, the complaint said.

In April this year, Chhattisgarh politican Rajesh Mukherjee received scores of calls from people willing to buy his car and a new bike. A prankster who had posted the pictures of the car and the bike on a popular classifieds website Quickr.com had put a tempting price tag on the products.
