The State Election Commission (SEC) will conduct election for 254 zila parishad and 1,711 panchayat samiti members’ posts in phase-III of Panchayati Raj Election, 2015 on Friday.
SEC chief election officer Satya Prakash Baswal said polling will be held from 8am to 5pm and all necessary preparations in this regard have been completed. Polling will be held on 254 zila parishad seats of which five members have already been elected unopposed. 702 candidates are in fray now for the remaining 249 seats.
Similarly 1,743 seats of panchayat samiti members will go for poll, of which 32 have been elected unopposed. Polling will now be held for 1711 seats for which 4613 candidates are in fray, said Baswal. Nominations will be filed for panch and sarpanch elections from 8am to 11am on January 31. The nominations will be scrutinised the same day from 11.30am to 3pm.
He said polling for panch and sarpanch will be held on February 1 from 8am to 5pm and the results announced the same day while on February 2 elections for up- sarpanch be held.
In order to ensure peaceful conduct of the polls, adequate security arrangements have been made in all the districts. 10,641 booths have been set up, where 94,61,226 voters would cast their votes, said Baswal.
He added that for effective vigil the Commission has appointed 30 observers.
