Rains throw life out of gear in Ganganagar

Three persons were killed in different incidents of house collapse in Ganganagar, even as heavy rains threw life out of gear in the district on Friday.

The city witnessed incessant rains for more than seven hours. “The city recorded 199.8mm rainfall in past 24 hours,” said Meteorological department officials.

Water inundated many areas of the city. At many place, roads were submerged under three-foot water. There were also reports of water entering houses and disruption of power supply from many parts of the district.

Three lives were lost in the rain-related incidents. Bhoora Singh (25), resident of Dev Nagar, and Gulab Singh (50), resident of Jagdamba Colony in Ganganagar, were killed after their houses collapsed due to heavy rains.

In another incident, a woman, Surta Devi (40), was killed in Raisinghnagar after the wall of her house collapsed.

The district administration has announced a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh to the next kin of each deceased.

Residents of ward number 1, Purani Basti, Lalchand ki Dhani and ward number 40 have become homeless, as water inundated their houses. They have been shifted to a nearby government school.

Meanwhile, the district administration has called the Army for help. Thirty army personnel have been roped in to pump out water from the submerged areas. A control room has been set up at the district headquarter and 15 senior officers have been put on duty in different wards to help the needy. The administration has also started a survey to assess the damages caused due to the rains.
