The state Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) media cell, which has been in doldrums since October last year, is passing through another crisis. With party spokesperson Kailash Nath Bhatt tendering his resignation, the party has been literally left with no spokesperson.

Four leaders were made spokespersons in the party executive announced in October last year. Of these Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was elected as MP and became a Union minister while Kailash Nath Bhatt resigned on Wednesday after controversy over his Facebook post on Z+ security cover to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

According to sources, Bhatt was made to resign under pressure from sangh cadres. He was a seasoned leader and presented the party’s view in very balanced way before the media, said a party leader surprised at his resignation.

Two other spokespersons MLA Alka Singh from Dausa has less interaction with the media while MLA Priyanka Choudhary from Barmer usually does not interact with the media. Moreover, the party media cell in-charge Navdeep Singh and state media convener Pinkesh Porwal are not as media-friendly as their predecessors were. Porwal, who hails from Pratapgarh district, spends less time in Jaipur and more in his hometown.

“The spokesperson being a crucial responsibility, the post cannot be left without a head for long. The new spokesperson will be appointed soon,” said state party president Ashok Parnami.

Things started falling apart in the BJP media cell in October last year when the cell was overhauled from the top to bottom. The then convener of the cell and other members were not even consulted before the new office-bearers were announced.

Parnami had also announced media in-charges for all the districts without taking the district presidents into confidence thereby creating resentment among some district presidents who conveyed their displeasure.

The changes had also given rise to a theory that a section of leaders hijacked the party and people only from that section were given prominence.
