To rule out the reports of differences in Congress camp and show their support for Jaipur candidate Mahesh Joshi, state Congress leaders on Saturday held a press conference. However, Jaipur mayor Jyoti Khandelwal was still “missing.”
There were reports of differences in the Congress camp when party senior leaders Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Brij Kishore Sharma, Archana Sharma, Ameen Kagzi, Mahir Azad and Jyoti Khandelwal were not present in the nomination filing of Mahesh Joshi but were seen during the nomination of Congress stalwart CP Joshi from Jaipur (Rural) seat.
When asked about the popular leaders not attending his nomination, he said, “It is not compulsory for leaders to come for it.
Secondly, during filing of papers, only four proposers are allowed to be in the room.”
When quizzed that how the same set of leaders turned out for CP Joshi, he said, “CP Joshi had also called a meeting and then took out a rally, while I did not call any meeting.”
When asked about absence of mayor Khandelwal, Joshi said this was meeting of candidates who had contested assembly elections in 2013.
Responding to the same question, Jaipur district congress president Salim Kagzi said, “All were informed, if she did not come then ask her.” Earlier, it was told that mayor was not informed about the meeting.
During the Saturday meet, the party leaders were of the opinion that 29 party workers including former MLAs namely Ganga Devi, who were expelled from the party, should not be reinstated.
Congressman Kagzi said, “No they will not be reinstated. These workers were expelled on the suggestion of party candidates from Jaipur district after the assembly elections in 2013. The candidates had told that they had lost the elections because of anti-party activities of these 29 members.”
In the entire conference, Brij Kishore remained silent.
