Recognising the efforts made by a local NGO for the first-ever annulment of a child marriage two years ago in Jodhpur, the Limca Book of Records has included the works of the voluntary organisation in its record book.

This is probably the first time when an NGO has been recognised for working on the anti-child marriage campaign in the country.

The NGO - Saarthi Trust -works for the betterment of children and women in the desert state. It took up the case of a Scheduled Caste girl of the Luni area in Jodhpur, who was married when she was only a year old. When the girl came to know about her marriage, she denied going away with her husband who she had never even met before.

Members of Saarthi counseled both the families and finally got the marriage annulled in April 2012. Later, the NGO hosted the marriage of the girl, in which she tied the knot with the youth of her choice.

“We are honoured as the our work is being recognised in the special edition of the Limca Book of Records for the first-ever child marriage annulment in the country,” managing trustee of Saarthi Kriti Bharti said.
