Raje keeps mum on party decision, skips BJP I-Day function

jaipur Updated: Aug 15, 2009 12:17 IST

After the snub to her supporting MLAs by BJP leader L K Advani, Vasundhara Raje on Saturday refused to comment on the situation in the party following the high command's decision asking her to step down as leader of opposition in the Rajasthan assembly.

"There is nothing to say just now. If there is something to say I will", she told reporters at a flag hoisting ceremony in Jaipur in Badi Chaupar area of the old city.

However, Raje did not attend the flag hoisting function at the BJP office in Jaipur which was attended by Ram Das Aggarwal, national treasurer of the party and other party leaders like Hari Shankar Bhabhra and Mahavir Jain.

Advani on Friday refused to see a group of over 50 MLAs who had come to tell the high command that Raje should not be removed from the post.

Asked about the high command's decision, state BJP President Arun Chaturvedi said, "Central leadership has asked Vasundhra Raje to tender her resignation as leader of opposition. This is a normal process of change of leadership".

"Change of responsibilities is a normal process and there is no bad intention as such against anyone as aired by the media," he said.

Asked if any action would be initiated against MLAs and other party leaders who went to Delhi in support of Raje, Chaturvedi said, "I cannot say anything at this moment".

On Raje's absence from the flag hoisting function at BJP office, he said he was "not aware of the reason behind her absence but she was invited personally".

Aggarwal, once known as a Raje loyalist, said "she should tender her resignation as the high command has asked for it".
