A senior Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer allegedly murdered his wife by strangling her on Monday, their 29th wedding anniversary.
The city police have arrested the officer, Ramdev Singh.
The police said Singh (56) murdered his wife, Vasundhara (52), at their residence at around 11am. He is posted in Jaipur as assistant collector. The couple used to have major quarrels, the police said. Singh is a chain smoker and suspected his wife wanted to kill him and mixed heroin in his cigarettes.
The officer has two daughters and a son.
The incident came to light when one daughter reached home in the morning from a relative’s house and found her mother in a pool of blood. She conveyed the matter to her uncle, who later informed the police.
The police said a 10-year-old domestic help was an eyewitness in the case. He said in his statement Singh, after a quarrel with the victim, first strangled her and then hit her repeatedly with a bat.
Singh was suffering from insomnia and was not on talking terms with any of his family members.
