Resident doctors' strike enters second day

jaipur Updated: May 23, 2010 15:19 IST

Medical services in four government hospitals in Jaipur remained crippled for the second consecutive day on Sunday as resident doctors continued their strike demanding action against family members of a patient who allegedly assaulted a medico.

"We today held meetings with hospital administration and senior police and district administration officials, but talks so far were inconclusive so we decided to continue the strike," said Rajvendra Choudhary, General Secretary of Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors.

However, talks were still on, he added.

Around 300 resident doctors at SMS hospital, J K Lone hospital, Janana Government Hospital and Mahila Chikitsalaya went on an indefinite strike Saturday after family members of a newborn girl, who died Friday night in Janana hospital, allegedly assaulted a medico.

While the doctors alleged that the family members assaulted Dr Bhanu, the infant's mother Bhakti Verma and others accused the doctors of negligence and also claimed that the doctors beat up her relatives.
