The Income Tax Department has seized Rs 10 crore in cash and jewellery worth Rs 57 lakh from a broker in the city, a top IT official said on Wednesday.
The seizure was effected after the IT sleuths raided two residential premises and an office complex of the broker on Tuesday, Additional Director of Income Tax Prasannjeet Singh said.
"We have seized Rs 10 crore in cash and jewellery worth Rs 57 lakh from the premises of the financial broker," he said.
"The amount of cash seized by the IT department is the biggest so far in the state," Singh said.
Earlier, the department had seized Rs 9.35 crore in cash from a jeweller in Jaipur, he said.
The broker had also admitted to have undeclared income of nearly Rs 23 crore and had agreed to pay the tax on it, the IT Additional Director said.
"Other documents related to broker's properties are being examined," he said.
