Congress Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Sachin Pilot yesterday voiced concerned over the caving in of pillars following metro construction in the walled city.

Pilot said that the state government should be held responsible for any damage caused to the architectural heritage of Jaipur.

He said it is the responsibilities of the state government to ensure that original structures of the historic monuments in the walled city are not damaged due to expansion of the metro tracks.

On Sunday, water and electricity pipelines in the area got damaged following the expansion work as necessary precautions were not taken by the concerned authorities, he claimed. On Saturday, three pillars had caved in at around 6:30 pm while digging work was in progress during the expansion of the metro tracks.

It is believed that the incident happened due to vibrations of machines.

However, the metro officials claimed that the incident occurred due to negligence of the public health and engineering departments who are entrusted with the job.
